Motorcyclists out for a ride along the curvy scenic highways stop for a view of the main attraction at the Backbone Rock Recreation Area near Shady Valley, TN on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Copyright 2014 Jason Barnette Backbone Rock is known locally as the "Shortest Tunnel in the World". It is a hole about 20' deep blasted through a ridge by the Beaver Dam Railway Company around 1900 to make way for a railroad track. Today, the recreation area features a full campground, picnic area, an observation area on top of the ridge, and a trail around a waterfall nearby.
